Crit - Worker's Soap

For this week’s Crit on The Dieline I reviewed the packaging for Worker’s Soap, a batch produced, artisanal product, handcrafted locally in the Hudson Valley from regional ingredients and sold under the Hudson Made brand. The design solution, created by New York-based Hovard Design, captures and compliments the brand’s philosophy of individual craftsmanship over machined quantity through a communicative combination of tactile material choice, print finish, hand-assembly, iconography, typography and language.

Packaging Review on The Dieline: Contrabando

For this week’s Crit on The Dieline I reviewed the packaging for Contrabando, a new rum from Grupo Caballero made in the Dominican Republic and exported to Spain. Taking its cues from the rum’s Caribbean roots, multidisciplinary design agency Tres Tipos Graficos created a packaging solution that contrasts contemporary sans serif typography and traditional hand drawn and etched illustrative imagery alongside a stamp and postal-based utility to convey provenance and the exported authenticity of the product.

Packaging Review on The Dieline: Hamish Ingham Sauces

For this week’s Crit on The Dieline I reviewed the labels for a new range of sauces from Hamish Ingham, a chef and restauranteur who co-owns Sydney-based Bar H, Little H and fine dining, wood-fired experience The Woods. Taking their cues from the interior of restaurant Bar H, its philosophy of preparing fresh, seasonal and local produce cooked with integrity and Hamish’s ‘edgy, hip and rock n’ roll’ personality, Frost created a striking but simple typographical solution, letter-pressed across a substantial, tactile, cotton-made material surface that has been secured with a bright rubber band to convey a bold but craft-based proposition.
