Aigua de Vilajuïga – A Packaging Review on The Dieline by Richard Baird

On behalf of The Dieline I reviewed Studio h‘s packaging work for sparkling mineral water brand Aigua de Vilajuïga. Utilising a smart contrast of dynamic and organic brush script, geometric castle and light pattern component Studio h’s treatment communicates the brand’s history, regional heritage, and the water’s high quality and lightly carbonated texture in a visually compelling way. La Pincée – A Packaging Review on The Dieline by Richard Baird

On behalf of The Dieline I reviewed François Maisonneuve’s design work for La Pincée, a Quebec-based company established by chef Catherine de Gongre that creates – under the banner of ‘fine and fancy flavors curated with care’ – a range of seasonings and spices produced from 100% natural, high quality, local and imported ingredients.

The range’s packaging and identity solution – awarded with a GAIA – mixes a solid typographical selection, a flat, earthy colour palette, simple illustrative detail, two structural choices and a tactile, uncoated card sleeve to convey the product’s elemental and complimentary nature, flavour profile, usage and draw out its delicate tone and fine texture. Continue reading on The Dieline.

Packaging Review on The Dieline: Fisix

Fisix is a new range of shower gels, shampoos and hydrating skin balms developed by four marathon running friends who could not find cosmetic products to meet their needs as sportsmen.

Fisix’s new identity and packaging solution, developed by international design agency Mucho, delivers a contrast of everyday cosmetics and a high quality scientific effectiveness with a clear sports reference through a number of different structural choices, the juxtaposition of abstract form and typographical flourish and the economy but accessibility of a single pastel and grey colour palette across each product.

Xide is a range of alcoholic, mixed and ready to drink beverages that exist in what Nine – the Stockholm-based design agency behind Xide’s new packaging and identity – describe as a globally declining market. Nine were commissioned by owners Carlsberg to “break this downward trend and make the product exciting and relevant for a notoriously fickle target audience.”

Packaging Review on The Dieline: Montea

Inspired by walking the trails that run through the Altai mountains – where Russia, China, Mongolia and Kazakhstan meet – Montea is a four flavour range of organic loose teas, blended by the Auri Vallis tea company under the guidance of Vladimir Romaniuk, infused with fruits, berries and herbs from the Altai region.

Taking their inspiration from this unique area, hand picked ingredients and the crafted nature of the tea, Moscow-based design agency IQonic created a packaging solution that utilises a granular illustrative approach to depict a vast landscape and sets this across a tactile material choice.

Packaging Review on The Dieline: Önos

Founded in 1903 as a wine and soft drinks business, Önos now produces jams, marmalades, juices and pickled vegetables from the small village of Tollarp, Sweden which are then sold throughout Scandinavia. To convey this lengthy heritage and emphasise the personality of the brand, multidisciplinary design agency Amore developed a new packaging solution that embraces a traditional illustrative approach, frames it with good quality, contemporary typography, a good eye for space, a simple layout, and the distinctive finish of a die cut label and tab.

Crit on The Dieline: Tideford Organics - Review by Richard Baird

Tideford Organics is an independent, family-run organic food manufacturer founded in 1996 and located in the UK town of Totnes, South Devon. They produce soups, sauces, pestos, rice desserts and porridges for the retail and catering markets and describe their production process as ‘cooking like you would at home’.

Developed by multidisciplinary design agency Boat, the packaging and identity for Tideford Organics’ range unites and contrasts an expressive script and formal serif, the rich illustrative work of Andy Touhy juxtaposed alongside a kitchen white and a simple frank detail to convey passion, provenance and high quality.

Crit on The Dieline: Allerums - Packaging Review by Richard Baird

Allerums is a Swedish brand of cheeses from Skånemejerier, a former farm cooperative bought in 2012 by Lactalis, the largest dairy business in the world. Stockholm, Malmö and New York-based multidisciplinary design studio Amore, who have worked with Skånemejerier since 1994, developed a new packaging solution for the Allerum range that, taking its cues from handwritten deli signs, employed a contrasting, mixed typographical solution which aided in a 56% rise in sales.
